We seem to have trouble sourcing hold ups that actually hold up. Sarah is 5’7” with slim legs that measure 52cm at the top from our measuring attempt.
Can you assist with any sizing information or anything relevant you can think of?
It’s a fair question.
Because when hold-ups slip, it feels like the product has failed.
But most of the time, it isn’t the hosiery.
It’s the fit.
Hold-ups rely on one thing: firm contact between the silicone band and the skin.
If the top band isn’t sitting snugly enough against the thigh, it simply can’t grip properly. Even being slightly too loose makes a difference.
Height alone doesn’t determine size.
Top thigh measurement matters more.
For someone 5’7” with slim legs and a 52cm top thigh measurement, sizing up to L/XL can often create the problem rather than solve it. The band may feel comfortable, but too relaxed to hold securely.
Many people size up thinking it will be more comfortable.
With tights, that can work.
With hold-ups, it often backfires.
Too large means less silicone contact, more movement, and gradual slipping.
A firmer fit at the band is usually what keeps them in place.
Even when sizing is correct, grip can be affected by moisturiser or body oil on the thighs, positioning them too low on the leg, or not smoothing them gradually up the leg.
Silicone grips best against clean, dry skin. Pressing gently along the band once they’re in place can also help activate the hold.
Usually because they’re slightly too big at the top.
Not faulty.
Not badly made.
Just not snug enough where it counts.
Hold-ups behave more like engineering than lingerie. The grip needs tension to work.
When the fit is right, they really do hold up.
If you’re choosing a softer sheer style, correct sizing makes all the difference. You can explore our Sheer Hold Ups collection.
