Dear Abbie,

I have a wedding and reception coming up and I’ve seen a pair of your sheer hold-ups which would really make my legs stand out. I’m just wondering if hold-ups are comfortable enough to wear all day, especially if there’s going to be a lot of standing and dancing.

They certainly can be, and a wedding or reception is exactly the kind of occasion where I often choose hold-ups myself.

A good pair stays in place thanks to the soft silicone band at the top of the stocking. When the size is right, that band holds the stocking securely without digging in, so you shouldn’t find yourself adjusting them throughout the day.

One of the reasons I like hold-ups for events is that they give the elegant look of stockings without needing a suspender belt. They’re quick to put on, comfortable under dresses, and they allow you to move freely, which is always helpful when the dancing starts later in the evening.

For occasions like weddings, sheer hold-ups are a lovely choice because they keep the look light and elegant while still being comfortable enough for long wear.
